A BIT ABOUT US

Working Towards a Better Tomorrow For Our Community

Here at Taupo Learning Centre, we see the value in everyone. We want to be a catalyst for positive change, and since our beginnings, we’ve been driven by the same ideas we initially founded our Non-Profit Organisation upon: support, empowerment, and progress. Learn more about our mission, our vision, and how we go about making the changes we want to see.

HISTORY

Literacy Taupō Incorporated is a registered charitable organisation and trading as the Learning Centre.  We have been part of the wider Taupō community for over 40 years. We started as a member of ARLA (Adult Reading & Learning Association) by a group of local volunteers who would visit people in their homes and support their learning needs.  In 2005 we moved to Waiora Community House where we employed a part-time coordinator to support our volunteers delivered literacy and numeracy learning to individuals 3 days per week.  The organisation grew over the next 5 years and in 2010 a second part-time coordinator was employed to help access new funding and facilitate group learning programmes.

The last 5 years

In 2017 we moved again to our learning campus at 3 Gascoigne st where we could deliver a wider range of programmes in a designed learning space. We evolved as an independent community lead adult education provider who is known for being committed to meeting the learning needs of the community.  More recently we have shown the ability to adapt quickly in a changing environment and focus on adult education courses that support the skills development for people to progress in their lives and participate more fully in our community.

Beyond today

We look forward to a bright future where we are supporting those in the community that need support with their learning journeys.
